Review: Fable Anniversary
For the past few years, Bethesda’s E3 presentation has been a highlight of the show, offering fans a look at what the award-winning company has in store for the next year. This year’s show will look to put many of the rumors surrounding the recently announced Fallout 76 to rest, give fans an extended look at Rage 2 , and offer some updates for The Elder Scrolls: Legends . Surprise game announcements and reveals are also expected, including a potential Fallout 3 remaster, so Bethesda may very well steal the show ag
As the third part of Microsoft’s Arcade Next XBLA promotion (which has included Bloodforge and Trials Evolution so far) Fable Heroes fits the casual, family-friendly bill. A cooperative button masher that combines elements of Lionhead Studios’ wildly popular series and a more traditional board game, Fable Heroes is very hard to label – and even harder to expl
It seems that steeds or mounts are somewhat of a given in the realm of role-playing fantasies, but as was the case with most of the Final Fantasy series, the developers decided to put a twist on the usual anim
It’s hard not to take families with younger children into consideration when reviewing Fable Heroes , but even they deserve something a little better than this. There are hints of complexity that suggest the game is for an older audience, while the look and gameplay make it seem like a broad, kid-friendly title that carries the Fable name. Unfortunately, in service of trying to win over the most gamers (or even non-gamers) possible, Lionhead may lose every
It’s not every year that Square Enix has an E3 press conference, so fans are expecting some big news from its presentation on June 11. We only know of two games that will definitely be shown by Square Enix, those being Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Kingdom Hearts 3 , with the latter expected to finally get a release date announcement after having originally been announced at E3 five years

Mixed with Disturbed’s rendition of Sound of Silence, and the trailer fits very well into the long line of impressive trailers for the franchise. The trailer is a great introduction to the game, as it’s the start of a new era in the Gears of War universe. This era is likely to continue, too, as the game received strong reviews and continues to sport a large player b
But earning those power-ups isn’t as simple as spending one’s earned coins, it’s actually facilitated via the game’s coolest feature. After each level players accumulate a certain number of dice rolls, which determine the improvements they have access to. Rather than being able to increase your damage percentage outright, players have to hope they roll the appropriate number and land on that space. It’s quite an ingenious little addition, and helps keep that carrot-on-a-stick always out of re
One of the most unique yet bizarre trailers of the year was Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding Reveal Trailer at E3 2016. The unsettling trailer opens with a quote from poet and author William Blake about holding infinity in the palm your hands. From there, viewers are treated to a cryptic sequence involving Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus and an infant ch
Just looking at the game on a strictly technical level makes it abundantly clear that this is not the Fable fans will be expecting. Much of the interesting design that Lionhead has established has been made more palatable and also less visually appealing. In plainer terms, since that’s what the game was shooting for, the project looks too “kiddy.” But even that would have been understandable if the game had decent collision detection or didn’t constantly suffer from frame-rate probl
Fable Anniversary is a port of ten year old game released on eight year old hardware after we’ve witnessed the power of next-gen. Yet even with so much stacked against it, it manages to impress. There’s not much of a “wow-factor” because of its ill-timed release, but with the exception of completely rebuilding the game for Xbox One, there simply isn’t much else that could be done that isn’t accomplished here. Sound, functionality and graphics are all substantially improved and breath new life into a game that has aged remarkably well. Even after two sequels and console generations, Fable has the uncanny ability to suck you into its Adventure games updates through the world of Albion. Anniversary is more of a preservation if anything, ensuring that the entire franchise can now be played in the same manner on the same console. As a museum piece, it’s a wonderful effort that ensures the game will remain relevant for a new generation of players. As a game, it’s the definitive edition of a superb title that has a lot to offer even in 2014.
